Healing with Horses

intuitive healing rooted in therapeutic skill

Horses have a way of revealing truth without words.

Their bodies speak through subtle shifts, and their nervous systems mirror the energy around them.

Hi, I’m Stephanie — a Certified Equine Massage Therapist and Licensed Massage Therapist (since 2011) based in Bradenton, Florida. With over a decade of experience in bodywork for both humans and horses, I bring a trauma-informed, intuitive approach to each session — specializing in myofascial release and craniosacral-inspired techniques.

My sessions are always tailored to the individual horse — whether a high-level competitor or a beloved pasture companion. I blend modalities like sports massage, craniosacral therapy, trigger point work, essential oils, and myofascial release to help unwind tension and restore balance in the body.

Every horse has a story, and I listen through stillness, presence, and trust.
This work is my passion, and it’s one of the most sacred ways I’ve been called to serve.

Why Is Equine Massage Important?

Even the most well-cared-for horses can carry physical and emotional tension in their bodies. Regular bodywork helps support their performance, comfort, and overall well-being.

Here are a few signs your horse may benefit from bodywork:

  • 🐎 Behavioral changes like irritability, resistance under saddle, or head tossing

  • 🐾 Decreased performance or reluctance to move forward, bend, or pick up a lead

  • 🌀 Uneven gait, stiffness, or shortened stride

  • 🤎 Sensitivity to touch, cinching issues, or sudden girthiness

  • 🫁 Compensatory patterns from injury, trauma, or saddle fit issues

  • 🌬️ Stress or anxiety, especially in new or high-pressure environments

  • 🧘‍♀️ Lack of relaxation even during downtime or turnout

  • 🐾 General aging or recovery support for older or retired horses

  • Improves circulation and lymphatic flow
  • Releases fascial restrictions and muscular tension

  • Enhances range of motion and flexibility

  • Supports nervous system regulation

  • Promotes relaxation and emotional release

  • Builds trust and connection between horse and handler

Raindrop Technique

The Raindrop Technique was developed by D. Gary Young, the founder of Young Living Essential Oils. This powerful technique is used on both humans and horses and has the ability to bring homeostasis back both physically and emotionally.  Physically, it has the potential to relieve pain and muscle soreness as well as release buried trauma and behavioral patterns that affect training, riding and the overall horse’s wellbeing.  Essential oils help detox the cells and organs while also releasing emotion/truama that is stored in tissue from past injuries.  The vita flex technique is used to help transport essential oils throughout the body. This technique uses the reflex system to release stress and energy blocks found in the body.

What happens during a Raindrop Technique?

An initial assessment and oil of the horse’s choosing to help relaxation and acceptance. Next, I use Valor to balance the energy centers, starting at the poll, shoulder and base of tail.  Third, I use Oregano, Thyme, Basi, Wintergreen, Cypress and Marjoram. These are applied to the spine of the horse (from the sacrum to the withers) which simulates raindrops. The oils are then “feather stroked” after each oil is applied. The Vita flex technique helps the oils get deeper into the tissue and allows for healing. I like to apply a hot towel compress after the essential oils are applied so as to allow the oils to integrate and do it’s work. It’s best to wait at least 24 hours before being ridden or in competition as the horse will experience detoxification.
